How a degausser works
Drop the drive or tape into the drawer or slot. Server drives can be loaded with their sleds and brackets still fitted.
A powerful alternating field — 1 Tesla up to 2 Tesla, or ±20,000 Gauss bi-directional on the T-4 — randomises the magnetic domains on the platter so the original bit pattern no longer exists.
Every Proton machine confirms a successful cycle on its LCD, and the T-4, T-5, T-1.2 and T-1.5 report field strength — giving you a defensible destruction record for your audit file.
